Peter Smales - Founding Partner

Peter SmalesAn Australian national born and raised in Papua New Guinea and educated in Australia in Commerce (Law) and Business Studies (Accounting/Marketing), Peter Smales began his aviation business career 1979 in Sydney as an executive management cadet with Australia's largest general aviation sales and services enterprise, Hawker Pacific, a major subsidiary at the time of the Hawker Siddeley Group, the then global British aircraft and heavy industrial component manufacturer.

As an international aircraft sales and aviation services and operations business management and group executive at Hawker Pacific until 2002, and then for seven years at ExecuJet, Peter has lived and worked in many different locations in Australia, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. During that time Peter has affirmed his professional credentials as an astute international businessman and has built a solid reputation in general aviation circles as an ethical but strong negotiator and seasoned international relations ambassador. He has established an enviable network of contacts and connections around the world, the result of thirty years working intimately with strategic partners, clients, suppliers and industry representatives in more than 80 countries, and travelling extensively and regularly around Australasia, the Pacific, Far East, South East and Sub-Continental Asia, the Middle East, Southern Africa, Europe and North America.

Before Peter left ExecuJet in mid 2009 he had been a principal architect and leader in ExecuJet's European strategic business development and consolidation process, acting as both a Group Executive Director and Managing Director of ExecuJet Europe and Chief Executive of the company’s European aircraft operations and aftermarket services subsidiaries ExecuJet Scandinavia A/S (Copenhagen), ExecuJet UK Ltd (London) and ExecuJet Switzerland AG (Zürich).

Complementing his contribution to the business development of both Hawker Pacific and ExecuJet, Peter sold and/or was instrumental in directly overseeing the sale globally of an impressive number of new and pre-owned helicopters, civil tiltrotors, turboprops and business jets, including the innovative Bell/Agusta BA609 Civil Tiltrotor (today’s AgustaWestland AW609) and the Aerion Supersonic Business Jet (today’s Aerion AS2).

In May 2009 Peter redirected his attention to Indigo Lyon, the aircraft sales and technology-focused business development and management consultancy he founded 2001 in Sydney, Australia. Indigo Lyon is now also incorporated in Switzerland and the United Kingdom and globally headquartered in Windsor (UK), just west of London.

Daniel Kunz - Partner

DanielBorn and raised in Zurich, Switzerland, Daniel Kunz from childhood harboured such a deep passion for aircraft that it was hardly surprising his business career was launched on the back of those early dreams to one day immerse himself professionally in the aviation industry.

Studying Business Sciences at Zurich University and graduating with a Master of Arts (MA), Daniel was quick to take advantage of his management education and love and knowledge of aircraft and aviation by accepting an offer from Winterthur Insurance to join them as an Underwriter in their Aviation Insurance Department. Guiding aviation business clients in the selection of best suited and often very complex insurance coverage honed Daniel’s sales and negotiation skills, strengthened his product and industry regulatory knowledge and provided him the perfect foundation upon which to cement his interest in and determination to carve out a career in business and general aviation, in the first instance leading to an invitation by Swiss aircraft management company, Avcon AG, to join them as their Zurich based Deputy Flight Operations Director.

Following the acquisition of Avcon by the ExecuJet Aviation Group, Daniel’s operational and business development responsibilities expanded rapidly in recognition by ExecuJet of their need to quickly exploit his talent and experience as a now seasoned business aviation operations practitioner and aviation business strategist. Daniel’s achievements during this period of difficult transition for ExecuJet were rewarded when he was appointed by the Group as Flight Operations Director Europe, a key strategic and tactical senior management position placing him in operational and regulatory compliance command of 80+ business aircraft across the Continent and responsibility for the Group’s aircraft-owner relationships and managing and meeting aircraft owner revenue generating and/or cost management expectations.

Daniel’s commercial business skills and European aviation regulatory and general industry knowledge perfectly positioned him for his move in 2005 to Pilatus Aircraft Ltd.’s Commercial Aircraft Sales business unit in Stans (Switzerland), his promotion thereafter to Head of Sales & Marketing PC-12 and his ultimate appointment as Programme Manager - Sales & Marketing for the PC-24 at the internal launch of this very exciting light business jet project. Daniel’s PC-24 product definition and market price point positioning work and his leadership contribution to product launch planning and execution coupled with his energetic promotion globally of the product rewarded Pilatus with orders for 84 aircraft, the equivalent of three years of planned PC-24 production.

In January 2015 Daniel took advantage of his 20 years experience in corporate to found and incorporate Indigo Lyon Switzerland AG and, out of offices in Zurich, start building sales and acquisitions and related aviation consultancy opportunities for the global Indigo Lyon aircraft sales and technology-focused business development and management consultancy franchise out of its first dedicated business base on continental Europe.
